Know Ye Now Bulkington?

Have you found your spirits damp & drizzly?

Wished, perhaps, for some re-charging?

Why not consider whaling?

Start with a stopover in lovely Nantucket,

Where the chowders are powerful and sustaining.

Stroll the wharfs there to find your frigate,

The craft that will carry your body and soul

To the remotest seas.

But more, this craft will be the cradle of

Your awakening, of the refreshment of your spirit.

Not a cruise ship for this great purpose,

But tiny and improbable,

A bobbing cork in a pitiless ocean;

This is the vessel of your rebirth.

Only heroes aboard, and cowards too.

Every soul moments from oblivion

And raked against the whetstone

Of mortal peril.

Every bright eye fixed on

Life’s dearness, and

Every heart thundering to

Cling on for one more moment.

Are you aboard?

Do you truly wish to

Flush the dreamy doubts

From your dreamy days?

Would you care to

Find your own Bulkington

Grimly pressing into the Storm?
